A chance for the persecuted
Protection for families
Migration is not a tap that can be turned on and off at will. People leave their country for different reasons, but rarely because they want to. The Green Party have recognised this and have found answers to the problem.
Protect Asylum
Asylum is a human right for the persecuted. For this right it is vital to have a swift, effective and fair processing system. The reality is that there are about 50.000 open cases and grants for asylum can take years to be processed – the Green Party is going for a 6 month system.
Bringing families together without quotas
Today family members have to wait to be allowed to be together again. The basic right of family life must be granted to all migrants. The first step in that direction is family migration without quotas or obstacles.
Human Rights belong to everyone
The «black and orange foreigner's rights packet», which falls below acceptable human rights standards, was made possible by SPÖ votes. A correction and an acceptable Schubhaftsvollzugsgesetz are vital.
Force-feeding and the deportation of traumatised people must also be made illegal.
An organised immigration policy
Austria is a country that needs immigration. A shrinking and rapidly changing society cannot possibly meet the social and economic challenges the future will bring. The current quota system, which works for international CEOs for example, has failed miserably. At the same time thousands of «Saisoniers» work for next to nothing and without insurance in Austria.
People need the chance to come to Austria legally for work. The Green Party has produced a model policy which controls the immigration of workers with a point-system.
Potential uses
A good edcuation, linguistic ability, work experience, family members who live in Austria and training in an area of work there is a distinct lack of are the most important criteria for immigration. Immigrants are put on equal footing with EU-citizens. A transparent, controllable system is instated instead of the current very harsh quota system.
Promoting integration
Immigration is inseperably linked to integration. Education, linguistic ability, social standing and equal opportunities are necessary for integration to succeed. We demand the right of advice during integration and citizenship after 5 years.
